This time we’re gonna speak about Omaha Hold’em poker. We’re sure, many of you have heard about this version of the most popular card game. But we also know that many poker fans don’t know its rules. So, today we’ll try to uncover key principles of the game. Mac poker players are also eligible to review the principles of the game as Omaha Holdem is available in a lot of poker rooms supported Apple devices.

So, let’s start with a brief introduction to the game. Omaha Hold’em Poker has a kind mystic origin. Actually, nobody knows, how, where and when the game appeared. However, it became extremely popular after introduction at several popular casinos of Las Vegas in 1983. What is good about Omaha Hold’em is that it’s pretty similar to the game we all know perfectly well – Texas Hold’em poker.

Omaha Hold’em Poker Rules

Omaha Hold'em Poker

So, let’s finally proceed to the rules! The game is played with a regular 52-card French deck, which is quite common for pokers. The number of the players varies between 2 and 9. When the game starts, every player gets 4 cards. Yes, right! 4 instead of 2 as it’s played in Texas Hold’em. It may seem that the game is gonna be much easier, but it’s not quite true – for more details read more.

After all players get the cards, first two of them make blind bets: Small Blind and Big Blind. The rest of players look at their cards and make a decision if they will play this game. In fact, there are three options you can use during the betting process: Raise, Check and Fold – just like in Texas Hold’em!

But what do those strange words mean? If you say “Raise”, you increase the size of the initial bet everyone confirmed. Then the rest of the players will have to call the bet or Fold, which means they stop the game in this round. The “Check” option lets you keep the bet as it is and see if some other players suggest to raise it. Finally, if you don’t have any prospect of nice combinations, you can say “Fold” and quit this round.

Omaha Poker – Tips to Win

Is it getting clearer? OK. Then let’s continue. After the first bets round the dealer puts three cards on the board, and the next round starts. It goes on quite the same – all players can Raise the bets, or keep them the same. In the end of the round the dealer reveals the fourth card, and the final betting round starts. After all players make the bets in the final betting round, the game ends and everyone checks the combinations to define the winner.

Special Features of Omaha Hold’em

Omaha Poker Rules

For now it looks pretty similar to Texas Hold’em with only one difference – each player gets four cards instead of two. But wait! We still haven’t spoken about the other important rule of Omaha Hold’em Poker. The combinations in this game stay the same, but the way they’re matched is quite different. To make a lucky match you have to use 2 cards from your hand and 3 cards from the board!

That makes the game rather complicated. For instance, to make a Full House combination with Ace, Ace, King, Ten and Five on board you will need an Ace and a King/Ten/Five in your Hand, or two Kings/Tens/Fives. That makes Omaha Hold’em Poker more complicated, or rather say challenging. Don’t forget that along with this problem it’ll be even more interesting and unpredictable to play poker with your friends.

Also, don’t forget that to win Omaha Hold’em you’ll also have to use all your smart skills! Like in any poker game, you have to bluff, cheat, follow the eyes of your rivals and do many other poker tricks. Well, and of course you’ll have to make nice combinations including Pair, Two Pairs, Three of a Kind, Straight, Flush, Full House, Four of a Kind, Straight Flush and Royal Flush. Quite typical, right?

All-in-all, the game depends both on your luck and on your psychological skills. If you’re tired of common Texas Hold’em, try Omaha Poker, and you’ll find out how interesting it is!
